We recently had the pleasure of planning, organising and hosting one of Channel Nine Perth's event when they visited the Gold Coast last week.

From the initial client event brief we knew we had to deliver something that was iconic to the Gold Coast. With most things iconic no longer standing we decided to set the theme around the GC's most famous asset- the beach!

With the Sun surf and sand being the main theme we arranged for their guests to indulge and get active in surfing lessons by world famous Munga Barry's Godfathers of the Ocean Surf School, Beach Volleyball and a fabulous BBQ Seafood Buffet with some of the best seafood the coast has to offer and cooked by one of the leading caterers on the coast - Catering By Clancy!

It was a magical day!

Coming originally from the beautiful Northern NSW region and having recently visited their on my last road trip in search of great venues, I'm excited to hear that re-development of the historic Lennox Hotel is nearing completion.

The hotel will have second floor conference space for up to 200 guests. With refurb of restaurant and catering amenities along with upgrades to Pacific Highway and direct flights from Sydney and Melbourne now available into Ballina Airport - this region is sure to be on 'hot list' of major corporates looking for a unique location opposite one of my favourite beaches.

With its fabulous position, easy accessibility to the Gold Coast and Ballina Airports - this venue will no doubt be a popular choice and it won;t be long before the venue is booked out well in advance. Well done to Troy Lister and team.

In my experience and how particular I like to be when setting up for an event, I must say I do love setting up my own theming for events. My personal approach to each event and the creativity and care that is put into each one sometimes feels like a baby I have given birth to.

After creating the concept and design in my mind I can clearly see what it is I want the event space to look and feel like, and it can be difficult to pass this 'visual' on to your event team. I have now started to create and develop for each event 'a story book'. This can sometimes be just a few pieces of paper that I have scribed away on - a basic floor plan and the colour and kind of props I have in mind or clippings that I have collected from magazines or even sometimes a combination of all of the above. I hope that this simple tool of collating my thoughts and vision into real objects will give my event team the 'a ha' moment when they are setting up for the event.
