To be an Event Planner takes a lot of multi-tasking of the brain. Event planners don’t think like everyone else, they have a tendency to think outside of the box, which makes them special to pull off such great events.

If you’re not an event planner, but your planning on being one. See below for some pointers to get you thinking.

You have to think for everyone else

Having a strong love of and talent for working with people is a given, and the ability to be tactful, patient, and calm with clients, vendors, and suppliers when they are all losing it – will be your best asset.

In any job where you’re working with people to create something to their specifications, many clients don’t always know exactly what they want. Sometimes, that means you have to figure out what a client wants, even though they themselves don’t know either.

Always be tuned into social media

Social media is an Event Planners best friend, and to be on the ball at all times you need to get social before the social. Obviously social media is the quickest way to communicate with a large group of people at any given time. Events are a really great way to engage on social media, they are social occasions after all.

Choose a hashtag so everyone can follow your conversation and get posting about all things events. Registration is open, early bird registration is ending soon, the count down, thank anyone and everyone, reminders, reminders, reminders.

Get on board with event technology

Live and breathe event technology as it’s always changing in the events industry and for the better every year. Apps, gadgets, digital stuff, software and knowledge all created to make our jobs easier with every event.

Have a good team behind you

An event planner usually has a solid team behind them all doing their thing, and they are good at what they do, however they are not Event Planners. So it is always good to give your team a heads up on how you think and the lingo you speak.

What it boils down to is communication. As an Event Planner you may have your own lingo, but it doesn’t mean anything if those around you can’t understand what it is your trying to convey.

If you need something done, take the time to explain it to the person clearly so that way they can accomplish it perfectly the first time. Loosen the reigns and let those working for you do what they were hired for and your event will run smoothly.

Event planners are a unique breed, and when you are in the event planning world you have to think about certain things from a different perspective.
