The smile that cleanses my soul, the eyes that stop time with a single glance, the touch of love from his hands, I’ve been waiting for this day, this special time, all I can do is pray for you to be my Valentine.

Oh yes it’s that time again, the most romantic day of the year.  Valentine’s Day is the day we celebrate our feelings of affection, getting struck by Cupid’s arrow and going all doe-eyed and gooey. It’s also one of the biggest nights to go out and have a lovely romantic dinner with your loved one (yes, yes it does).

For all you lovers out there, legend has it that Valentine was a priest who served during third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius 11 decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine realising the injustice of this defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret.

When Claudius found out this secret, Valentine was ordered to death. Valentine was executed on 14th February in the year 270. Fast forward to the 21st century and we are still celebrating Valentine’s Day.

So with all this love in the air – where are you going to go on your date? See below for my top five favourite spots.

Currumbin Vikings Surf Club

A surf club may seem a bit Sunday afternoon beer and Chicken Parmigiana, but not Currumbin on Valentine’s evening. Dazzling views, the smell of salt air and a long romantic stroll on the beach afterwards.

Oskars Restaurant

Synonymous with style, glamour and all the big Hollywood stars who are in town always go to Oskars! If it's good enough for Bono and Mick, it's good enough for us.

The Fish House

Its speciality is fish of course, but not just any fish. Fish served with a side of one of the best views in the world. Seriously, like Oskars it is stunning. Oh yeah did i mention the fresh fish...

Omeros Bros, Main Beach

These wog brothers have been around along as I have and they know their seafood. Great food and of course a lovely  view. Make sure to have champagne with your oysters and the night is yours for the taking.

Videre, Royal Pines Resort

Level 21; drink in the views of the hinterland and the Gold Coast skyline. It’s dam impressive. Hugely underrated and doesn’t get talked about enough. Beautiful Valentine’s Date.

Be romantic, get butterflies in your stomach and get the nerve to tell him or her you’re hopelessly and desperately in love with him…and you want it to stay that way.

After all St Valentine didn’t get executed just so we could give a card and get on with our day…He was executed in the name of love, oysters, champagne, engagements, lingerie and heart shaped chocolates.
